Magnetic Media Digitization

The Archives of Ontario magnetic media collection is aging and is at risk due to physical deterioration and the growing obsolescence of antiquated playback equipment. It is urgent that we create digital preservation copies of these valuable magnetic media records as soon as possible to ensure their long-term preservation and researcher access. The Archives of Ontario has limited capacity to digitize magnetic media on site and does not have access to the equipment to play and digitize some magnetic media formats. The Archives on Ontario is, therefore, seeking external digitization services to complete this work before these magnetic media records are unrecoverable. The Digitization services will include the cost of digitizing 20,409 magnetic tapes, across multiple different video and audio magnetic media formats.
