Bear Ocean Health (BOH) is a First Nation marine servicing company located in Bear River First Nation, NS. BOH has partnered with Seaforth Geosurveys, DSA Ocean and Lennox Island First Nation to provide a variety of services in the marine space to support aquaculture, fisheries, infrastructure and offshore energy projects to name a few. BOH offers services such as hydrographic and oceanographic surveying, baseline surveys for aquaculture, port development and dredging surveys, geophysical and geotechnical surveys, marine environmental modeling, oceanographic data collection, plankton surveys and environmental eDNA collection and analysis. The above work is supported through various equipment such as side scan sonar, echosounders, magnetometers, acoustic doppler current profilers, underwater cameras, subbottom profilers, geotechnical equipment (eg. vibracorers and grab samplers), sensor arrays (temperature, salinity, oxygen, chlorophyl a), plankton tows, and water samplers. Available survey vessels include the MV Bear Down (15m long x 8m wide fiberglass), MV Down River (9m long 3,6m wide aluminum) and MV Katabatic Winds (11m long x 4m wide fiberglass). All vessels are Transport Canada registered and boat crew have all marine certifications (ie. MED, ROC and, Marine First Aid). BOH has access to marine geologists, marine biologists, marine engineers, GIS technicians, vessel operators, a geneticist and commercial divers as required to meet client objectives.
