This helicopter contract enabled Parks Canada to provide aerial support on out-of-control wildfires in Jasper National Park during the summer of 2024. The only way to safely conduct some fire suppression work is from the air. The only practicable way to move forward in the available timeframe was under an urgent direct Request for Quotation process. A legitimate objective was applied to allow for deviation from minimum public tendering periods under domestic and international trade agreements. This measure was necessary in order to achieve the legitimate objective, specifically the protection of human, animal, and plant life and health.
