For NRC-Mississauga’s (NRC-M) lithium-ion battery research, precise testing equipment like a battery cycler and a potentiostat are essential. The battery cycler automates charge and discharge cycles, enabling comprehensive performance evaluation over time, gathering critical data on capacity retention, energy efficiency, and degradation mechanisms. Potentiostats using Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) technique provide insights into internal resistance and ion transport, which are essential for diagnosing issues and developing new materials with improved performance and stability. Having both capabilities in one piece of equipment is critical to eliminate the sample transfer step and reduce excessive data processing steps. To accomplish this, NRC-M needs a battery cycler that offers a wide current range and includes an integrated EIS analyzer. The cycler must be able to cover at least 100 mA with integrated EIS and be operated in parallel for all channels within the frequency range of 10 mHz to 100 kHz.
• The Clear Energy Innovation Center at NRC-M requires a 32-channel battery cycler with a Native EIS analyzer. It must include channels with integrated EIS analyzers supporting 10 mHz to 100 kHz frequencies. The system should deliver up to 100 mA, feature high resolutions (40 µV, 1 nA), and use the same software for cycling and EIS. It must operate autonomously and include SSD chips for secure data storage. The supplier should provide 32 coin cell holders and cables, functional from -20 to 60°C.
