Construction contract to replace the concrete fixed bridge located at Jones Falls Lockstation on the Rideau Canal in Elgin, Ontario.
The work in general consists of replacement of the existing cast-in-place concrete bridge with a new bridge consisting of a pre-cast concrete bridge deck and semi-integral cast in place concrete abutments. Existing concrete approach retaining walls are also to be replaced and concrete approach slabs are to be introduced to the site to match into existing concrete paving slabs which will also be replaced for a prescribed length. With the new bridge and approach walls comes new structural steel vehicle guardrails. The existing bridge deck superstructure will be completely demolished. In an effort to minimize disruption to site, the abutments and approach walls associated with the existing concrete bridge will be partially demolished in a manner to allow the new bridge structure to over span existing abutments. New approach walls will be cast in front of the old.
Contractor area of specialization is concrete construction (bridges) as well as key sub-trades specializing in heavy civil and miscellaneous metals. In-water work is not required as part of this contract except where required to establish in-stream environmental controls. The contract will involve work in cold weather including concrete.
See attached drawings and specifications for detailed scope of work.
