A complete refurbishment is required for 212 Bickenhall Mansions Bickenhall Street London W1U 6BW. No structural changes or alterations are planned other than restoring the laundry room to a powder room and putting a washer & dryer in the kitchen. We will be renewing the electrical; plumbing; flooring; kitchen and bathroom followed by a complete redecoration (repainting) and clean.
Bickenhall Mansions was built in 1869 by W.H.Scrymgeour and is characterized by its red brick exterior and tall gables. The beautiful property was once the home of the British Special Operations Executive, an arm of the intelligence services during World War II. Originally based in Baker Street, the Special Operations Executive grew to such an extent, that Winston Churchill took over Bickenhall Mansions, along with many other mansion blocks to provide space for the ever growing intelligence team.
The internal layout has seen little change since this flat was purchased by the High Commission in the 1970s. The flat has been redecorated and maintained regularly by the Canadian High Commission, but this will be the first major refurbishment for many years where it is the intention to remove most finishing’s, bathroom, kitchen and carryout a total mechanical and electrical upgrade.
The managing agents will provide the necessary licenses under landlord management and the Canadian High Commission will carry out a pre-construction asbestos survey as soon as the flat becomes vacant. The results will be available for review prior to the commencement of this project. It is the intention for all asbestos to have been removed, or made safe prior to any works on site under this SOW.
The flat will be empty and unfurnished.
Bidders must (mandatory) visit the site on October 24, 2019 at 09:00 AM British Summer Time (BST), at their own expense, to become familiar with all of its on-site conditions.
No expenses related to the site visits will be reimbursed.
