Description
Dutch Flats is situated within the Dutch‐Oldman Recreation Management Unit
(RMU) of the Livingstone Public Land Use Zone (PLUZ) in Alberta. The area is
bordered by the Oldman River to the east and the Forestry Trunk Road to the
west, with access provided via Highway 40, approximately 40 KM north of
Coleman, Alberta, and from Highway 22 through Maycroft Road.
Dutch Flats is a popular destination for both motorized and non‐motorized recreational activities, offering rustic camping opportunities and access to a designated off‐highway vehicle (OHV) trail network. Despite its popularity, Dutch Flats currently lacks the infrastructure necessary to support its high level of use.
This project seeks to address these challenges by developing sustainable
solutions to enhance safety, protect sensitive areas, and improve the overall
recreational experience.
Working towards the outcomes and objectives identified within the Project
Plan, the successful Proponent is to apply proven parks‐based (non‐urban)
technical design practices in conjunction with appropriate tools and skilled
resources through the Assessment, Conceptual Design, Detailed Design,
Approval Process, Issued for Tender and Issued for Construction and Project
Close Out phases for the site to achieve the end result desired by the
Province.
The work to be accomplished under this project includes:
Dutch Flats
Improve the Dutch Flats area as per the Project Plan in Appendix 4.
Dutch Creek Road

infrastructure.
Design roadway improvements to accommodate low‐speed,

Reclaim areas where non‐designated routes exist, and in areas that
have been impacted by the project.
Upgrade signage using Alberta Forestry and Parks standard sign
catalogue as needed.
Increase accessibility wherever reasonably possible.
