Forestry and Parks - Request for Proposal - Lookout Tower Firesmart Project

To mitigate the potential wildfire threat to Alberta Wildfire Lookout infrastructure, a targeted fuel modification treatment is proposed for the Adair, Buffalo, and Wadlin Lookout sites. The treatment area will encompass approximately 23 hectares surrounding each tower. Operations will adhere to FireSmart and Alberta Wildfire fuel management standards, with prescriptions designed to reduce surface and ladder fuel continuity and lower overall stand density. Planned activities include selective thinning, pruning to prescribed height, mechanical mulching, and the removal of dead and down woody fuels. Where necessary, residual debris may be disposed of through controlled pile burning under appropriate conditions.
