Vulcan County Emergency Services utilizes a 3-story fire training center outfitted with Kidde fire trainers T500 LFTS indoor fire trainer. This trainer is a live-fire training system used to conduct training of firefighters and emergency rescue personnel in live-fire situations. The trainer is a system that generates gas-fueled fires under the control of a computer system and an instructor.
The trainer simulates Class A,B,C type fires. The fires are generated in fire training burn rooms. Each fireplace can be and will be monitored from either the operator's station via on-screen displays or from a local hand-held control pendant via illuminated switch indicators.
Vulcan County is seeking quotes from a qualified company for upgrades to its’ Kidde Fire Trainers T-500 LFTS Indoor fire trainer. This project is expected to occur in phases, spanning over two years 2023-2024. The quotes must be for the design and installation of equipment that flawlessly integrates into the KFT system already in place. These upgrades shall consist of the following;
• New window fire & smoke affect second-floor burn room-
o New climate-controlled & insulated control room
o New PC control Human Machine Interface
o Sound System throughout 3 stories
o Camera System to include thermal
o Outdoor props (dumpster & 112 sq ft fuel spill)
Fire Training Center Upgrades
o Design, fabricate, deliver and install a new window fire effect and smoke generation system on the second story of the existing burn building
o Integration of new fire & smoke effects into existing safety monitoring and fire generation system
o Commissioning, Operation & Maintenance Training, and handover of new fire effects
o Design, fabricate and deliver a stand-alone control room
o Provide an HVAC system for the control room heat and AC
o Design, delivery, installation, and integration of a new PC controller, residential sound effects, and camera system including thermal
o Operations & Maintenance training
o Design, fabricate, deliver and install new portable fire effects (dumpster & fuel spill) at the outdoor training pad
o Commissioning, Operation & Maintenance Training, and handover of new fire trainers
New Control Room
o Design, fabricate and deliver a stand-alone control room
o Provide an HVAC system to control room heat and AC
o Control room will be free-standing with 4 walls, floor, and ceiling
o The out-to-out dimensions of the control booth shall be no smaller than 6’ 10” X 9’
What is Required
Complete Gas-Fueled Live Fire Training System Supplied and Installed. Must meet Canadian standards
• Gas- Fueled burn platform, 13sq ft of the burn area
• PLC computer controls that integrate with KFT
• Instructor manual control of flame height and extinguishment
• Handheld control pendant
• Control panel with indicators and buttons to control props
• Smoke generation system
• Ventilation fan and control electronics
Safety Features
• Temperature Monitoring
• Infrared gas-detection system
• Integrated, monitored ventilation system
• Monitored, extinguishable pilot flame
• Monitored combustion air supply
• Emergency Stop Buttons
Safety Compliance
The equipment shall meet all applicable Canadian safety codes and standards and must be detailed on how it meets the codes. In addition, It should also meet the below standards.
• Certification by a Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL)
to UL508A and NPFA86, as recommended by NFPA 1402
• NFPA 54-National Fuel Gas Code
• NFPA 58- LP Gas, storage, and use
• NFPA 70- National Electrical Code
• NFPA 86- The Standard for ovens and furnaces
• NFPA 1402- Standard on facilities for fire training and associated props
• UL 508A- The Standard on Industrial Control Equipment
Project Team Qualifications
• Indicate the proponent's / project team's qualifications and capabilities for the project, including past projects having similar requirements to the one being proposed
• Include summarized qualifications of the project manager / leader, project team members and subcontractors
• Specify how these staff will be organized and supervised on the project
Within the quote, the scope of work with timelines for completion of each phase must be stated.
It is highly recommended that the site be visited to understand the scope of work that will be needed.
