Description
Island Health’s Mental Health and Substance Use (“MHSU”) department offers a range of services from short-term crisis intervention to rehabilitation and housing, and many options in between, with the priority of providing appropriate accessible services for individuals with serious mental illness and/or substance use issues. MHSU provides services in the context of a wider support network including other government agencies, aboriginal health organizations, community partners, public agencies, and friends and families. Island Health is committed to providing high quality care and recognizes the importance of a cohesive leadership team.
As part of MHSU, the Department of Psychiatry (the “Department”) is dedicated to supporting individuals with moderate to severe psychiatric illness. The Department’s medical leadership supports Child and Youth, Adolescent, Adult, Tertiary, and Geriatric psychiatry, as well as Addiction Medicine. The Department’s recent quality improvement work has identified a need for training focusing on cultural improvements to improve communication, cultural safety, retention, and quality.
Therefore, the MHSU medical and administrative leadership team wishes to engage an agency or consultant that can provide a time-limited leadership training course related to cultural improvements through a series of sessions or workshops offered to Island Health’s MHSU leadership, including executive, medical, and administrative leadership. The successful Proponent is expected to identify gaps in the MHSU leadership structure and methods of communication and provide creative solutions to address these gaps in order to improve leader-partnerships, develop a common language and set of organizational norms and expectations, and enhance the ability of the leadership team to set meaningful and valuable improvement targets, and the techniques to achieve them, as a collaborative. Developing a respectful, collaborative co-management structure in the program is a critical step in building a strong and vibrant, high quality place to work – all of which improves retention and ultimately accessibility and quality of patient care.
