    Description

Tracks is an integrated biological and behavioural surveillance system that monitors HIV, hepatitis C and other sexually transmitted and blood borne infections (STBBI) as well as their associated risk factors among key populations in Canada. Tracks surveys consist of a questionnaire and testing for HIV, hepatitis C and other STBBI. The questionnaire includes questions relating to demographics, social determinants of health, injecting drug use and practices, sexual behaviours, testing and treatment behaviours, and history of STBBI. The Tracks system was established to support the Federal Initiative to address HIV/AIDS in Canada and now serves to provide evidence to support the Pan Canadian Sexually Transmitted and Blood Borne Infections (STBBI) Framework for Action - the Government of Canada’s comprehensive approach to addressing STBBI in Canada, published in 2018.

The Tracks surveillance system uses repeated cross-sectional surveys at selected sentinel sites across Canada and employs consistent sampling and recruitment strategies over time.
