The Meteorological Service of Canada tilting-pole anemometer tower (tilt-pole) is designated to expose the anemometer to conditions 10m above the surrounding surface and yet easily tilt down so that the sensors can be service by a technician standing on the ground.

    SCOPE OF WORK

    1. Geotechnical Assessment.
    2. Detailed engineered foundation drawing specific to site.
    3. Install Anemometer Tower foundation and anchors.

    BACKGROUND
Meteorological Service of Canada (MSC) is responsible for installing and maintaining a network of coastal weather stations. One of the most important coastal weather parameters is wind, which is primarily measured by anemometers mounted 10m above the surface. These anemometers need annual maintenance and calibration checks. Historically they been mounted on climbable towers, or indeed any structure that gave close to 10m elevation above the local surface. Due to the chance of a fall, or the incapacitation of a technician on the tower, climbable anemometer towers have raised some significant Occupational Safety and Health concerns. In the mid-1990’s a nation-wide program was begun to replace these climbable towers with tilting-pole towers, which enable a technician to service the anemometer while standing on the ground. There remain a handful of climbable wind towers on the west coast of British Columbia and the intent of this process is to replace climbable tower with tilting pole at Kindakun Rocks this fiscal year ending Mar 31, 2024.
