One (1) specialized sewage truck is required for Parks Canada at the Banff Field Unit
Currently, Parks Canada uses 2006 Freightliner chassis Sewage Truck. The former back end of the truck was designed with a 3500 imperial gallon carbon steel holding tank that had a tank division to include 700 gallons of water capacity and 2800 gallons of debris capacity. The current model built in 2006 has reached the end of its usable life cycle with 280,000 km and constant maintenance, which jeopardizes timely routine cleaning of our facilities throughout the busy summer season with over 4 million visitors.
The desired outcome is to ensure the truck is capable of efficiently completing the cleaning process of 21 vault toilets with 1,800 gallon vaults and 37-1300 gallon holding tanks throughout Banff National Park. It is a requirement to have a modern reliable truck that can be counted on to vacuum up at least 14,000 imperial gallons of sewage per 8 hour day in 6 trips to be disposed of at our sewage lagoons which could be up to a 32 km drive through mountainous areas. The truck should have the ability to provide lighting for early morning and late evening work, the ability to transport enough water to liquefy all solids in the tanks that will be worked on each day as well as clean onboard debris tanks, the ability to pressure wash the storage tanks and toilet vaults in summer and winter temperatures, the ability for debris tank to self-clean and flush from the interior, with the ability to air purge the water lines on the truck to prevent the freeze up of lines, the ability to store up to 130ft of sewage hose, the ability for the truck to operate for 8 hours per day on one tank of diesel fuel, the ability to allow flexibility for maneuverability, traction and grade ability in poor terrain, the ability to inspect interior of the water and debris tank safely, the ability to pump the holding tanks in a timely manner, the ability to discharge debris from the onboard tank in a timely fashion, the ability to keep the operator comfortable in all conditions, the ability to tell levels in all tanks on vehicle.
A list of mandatory minimum specifications and requirements is included in Annex "A".
