Nature of Requirements: 

The Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) has a requirement to continue research aiming to discover genomic biomarkers for decompression sickness (DCS). The CAF hopes that this discovery will lead to the development of a rapid biochemical assay kit to detect DCS in military theatre. The work will involve gathering PAXgene® blood samples from recreational divers to characterize diagnostic biomarkers for DCS.

The evaluation criteria include, but are not limited to:

- Proposed resource(s) must have a PhD degree in biology-related science and postdoctoral experience in hyperbaric animal physiology.

- Proposed resource(s) must have published a minimum of one scientific publication within the field of decompression stress in divers.

- Proposed resource(s) must be able to isolate and purify RNA from PAXgene® blood samples.

The length of this contract will be from the date of contract award to August 31, 2021.

The majority of the work will take place at the Defence Research and Development Canada’s Toronto laboratory located at 1133 Sheppard Avenue West in Toronto, Ontario.

The resulting contract will require some travel to conferences within North America.
