Our mission is to protect and promote human rights, SDGs and Reconciliation. We deliver thought-provoking content on the design and the governance of AI Systems, address critical issues of power dynamics, bias, systemic change, political economy, geopolitics, climate security, digital economy, gender equality, and more. We offer consulting and research on AI development and governance, with a focus on critical policy and regulatory implications. Our research is done via STEAM-based approaches and traditional methods. Sample work includes: engage and create learning and knowledge sharing materials (AI Games, Art Impact programs); research the socio-legal feasibility of oceanographic data trust for fisheries in Quebec Civil Law (including legal rights for rivers); co-create documentary on smart oceans with Indigenous Intelligence; analyze and provide recommendations on EU and Canada’s AI and Data proposed regulations; design engaging data annotation application aimed at reducing bias with an interdisciplinary team (HCI, NLP); consulting and chair panel on AI Children’s Rights; lead the WG on Gender Equality in Digital Economies and the Environment; research impact of social media on Indigenous peoples, improve hate detection and data annotation best practices in NLP. Our global network brings together diverse perspectives on the social, political, legal, cultural, economic and ethical implications of AI. AIIA is a founding member of OBVIA and the Responsible AI Consortium.
