Provide diagnostic and therapeutic services in MSK health

Back pain and musculoskeletal trauma are among the common and anticipated medical conditions in deep space, as listed in Table 1 of Section B3 Medical Risk Assessment of the Report of the Advisory Council on Deep-Space Healthcare (2021). Through his clinical experience, his academic training and his previous publications, Dr. Martin Gagnon chiropractor has developed expertise in the treatment and management of various musculoskeletal disorders, including back pain, tendonitis and muscle problems. Dr. Gagnon can make a significant contribution to the challenges of deep space health care. Issues where Dr. Gagnon can make a significant contribution include validation studies of countermeasures to prevent musculoskeletal deconditioning and therapies to treat musculoskeletal disorders, during bed-rest studies. Indeed, protocols and devices aimed at musculoskeletal health will have to be evaluated in order to be approved for spaceflight. Diagnostic and therapeutic methods could be derived from commonly used clinical tools, which will be assessed and adapted to meet the need to detect, diagnose, treat and monitor health conditions in remote and deep space areas. Dr. Gagnon is available to collaborate with government, academic and industrial stakeholders who acknowledge the importance of musculoskeletal health in space and remote areas on Earth.
