    Description
    This contract was awarded to:
    BuildingSMART Canada

The Department of construction, particularly NRC national platform and the Construction Sector Digitalization and Productivity (CSDP) challenge program has a requirement to set standards for Building Information Modeling (BIM) in the Canadian architecture, engineering, and construction sector. This project aims to explore comprehensive standards and processes for BIM internationally to determine the level of readiness across Canada's provinces and territories. The initial step of the project aims to investigate BIM adoption, implementation, and maturity to better understand industry readiness and inform the Canadian government's decisions regarding the future of BIM. In the next phase, the project focuses on openBIM and interoperability, which enables a collaborative, interoperable approach to design, realization, and operation of the built environment based on open standards and workflows. openBIM is trying to address global interoperability issues by allowing different stakeholders to share their data without dependence on a single proprietary format. To develop an effective strategy and guidance for openBIM implementation and promote interoperability in Canada, it is crucial to understand how leading international jurisdictions are managing interoperability, including reviewing openBIM tools, exchange platforms, implemented standards, and issued guidance. The information gathered will inform the future of openBIM and interoperability requirements in Canada.
