This contract for medic services enabled Parks Canada to ensure the safety of crews and immediate medical response should an incident occur for out-of-control wildfires in Jasper National Park during the summer of 2024. It also ensured compliance with Part II of the Canadian Labour Code. The only practicable way to move forward in the available timeframe was under an urgent direct Request for Quotation process. A legitimate objective was applied to allow for deviation from minimum public tendering periods under domestic and international trade agreements. This measure was necessary in order to achieve the legitimate objective, specifically the protection of human, animal, and plant life and health.
