NOTICE OF PROPOSED PROCUREMENT (NPP)
Objective
The objective of the project is to re-establish the radar coverage for the waterways adjacent to the Canadian Coast Guard’s (CCG) Marine Communications and Traffic Services (MCTS) communication site on Bowen Island. This site is a key component to the CCG MCTS program and its purpose of safety of life at sea. The existing radar and Very High Frequency (VHF) communications site is at the top of Radar Hill on Bowen Island and was built over 40 years ago, where at the time the trees to the south and southeast below the site were cleared. Over the years the trees have continued to grow to the point where they are now blocking the radar coverage along the southeast corner of Bowen Island. The is a crucial area as it covers regular ferry traffic as well a shipping lane with key vessel turning points which are completely obstructed.
The Government of Canada requires the services of a Harvesting Contractor to harvest approximately 6.15 hectares of timber.
