Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) owns, maintains, and operates the Lethbridge Research and Development Centre (LeRDC) facilities. AAFC has identified the need to replace two (2) existing boilers. As part of this project two high-pressure boilers, HPB-3, and HPB-4, are to be replaced. HPB-3 has been decommissioned and is no longer connected to the distribution system. HPB-4 has reached the end of its lifespan and requires replacement. The piping runs associated with these two boilers are original to 1974 and provide steam to autoclaves and sterilizers. The boilers’ sole purpose is to provide high-pressure steam to the facility’s autoclaves and sterilizers.
