The structural building work has been separated into five areas consisting of general services, studies, design development, consultant services during and after construction, and Resident Engineering services. Structural consultants will work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team (architecture, landscape architecture, electrical, mechanical and geotechnical engineering, industrial design, etc.). The type of existing or/and new structures could include buildings and temporary structures or shoring (for construction or special events). Existing structures to be altered may vary in age and be constructed of concrete, steel, wood, masonry or stone. Many of the structures will have heritage value. Design details could go as far as the anti-graffiti coatings to be applied to vertical concrete surfaces. Some of the work will involve the rehabilitation and/or restoration of buildings and/or of Official Residences which may have heritage designation or value. The latter will require a security level for access for their personnel. The consultant shall be familiar with the workings of the Federal Heritage Buildings Review Office (FHBRO), the Federal Land Use and Design transaction Approval (FLUDA) process, and the implications of their work with respect to the Canadian Environmental Protection Act.
