    Description

    This contract was awarded to:

    Speera Construction Group

Cavendish Campground requires the re-design of the entrance to accommodate a new Visitor's Information Centre, washrooms, improved parking, a wood shed, a dumping station and an exit road to facilitate more efficient vehicular movement in and out of the campground.

A new wood frame Visitors Information Centre (VIC) is required, the new complex, comprised of three separate structures will be slab on grade structures with approximate exterior dimensions of 9 X 11 m. The new complex will serve as the main point of contact for visitors to this section of the park. The buildings will house a staff lunch room, a visitor trip planning area, a public washroom, an area dedicated to merchandise, firewood storage, and a service counter which will offer the visitor three points of contact with Parks staff. New underground services are to be installed to handle the electrical, plumbing, and wastewater for the new VIC. The new dumping station must be created to the west of the current campground kiosk site. A new pull off lane is also required at a width of 3.5 meters for a distance of approximately 100 meters. The dumping station must be directly tied into the campgrounds sewage system removing the requirement of holding tank cleanouts.

The work to the site will involve significant changes to vehicle movement in this location. The existing entrance must remain in place with the current kiosk being removed to allow for the creation of a new garbage handling area. The existing entrance lane must remain and run parallel to the new visitor center, allowing vehicles to drive up to a service window for registration purposes. The newly constructed second lane must allow guests to exit the campground without waiting behind car in the registration line. The footprint of the new exiting roadway will slightly increase in area to accommodate the changes noted above. In addition, approximately six parking spaces should be created to serve the new Visitor's Centre.
