OBJECTIVES OF THE REQUIREMENT
The Government of Canada is seeking to establish a clear and transparent national legislative and regulatory framework for aquaculture that enables ordered and sustainable industry expansion, generates new investments, and creates new employment opportunities, while helping to assure Canadians that the environment is being protected. To realize these federal objectives, Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) is exploring legislative and regulatory reform options that build on the existing federal aquaculture regime and advance seamless operation with existing provincial and territorial regimes.
