    Description

    This contract was awarded to:

Construction Demathieu & Bard (CDB) Inc.

Trent-Severn Waterway National Historic Site requires an experienced Contractor to replace the Coboconk Dam. The proposed work generally consists of rehabilitating the existing concrete dam built in 1939 with upstream and downstream extensions of the existing piers which will include service gains and new precast concrete deck. The deck size will be increased to accommodate a pedestrian access and will be raised up as the piers are also increased in height. The upstream and downstream pier extensions will be stainless steel shaped forms that will act as the formwork and are anticipated to be used as a cofferdam for containing the new concrete resurfacing of existing piers. New service gain sill beams will be placed upstream in the river bed, once completed they will assist as the cofferdam. Limited numbers of sluices are permitted to be shut down in the phasing of the work. Innovative construction techniques will be required in order to ensure suitability to the work area and address all environmental mitigating conditions. There is easy access to the dam, however the Contractor will need to source an appropriate staging area. The Contractor shall familiarize themselves with the critical dates outlined in the specifications relative to the in-water work restriction to protect fish spawning as the timeline to complete the work is tight.

Contractor area of specialization is mass marine concrete construction (dams) as well as key sub-trades specializing in heavy civil, crane hoisting and rigging, marine installations, environmental protection, structural steel and miscellaneous metals and heavy timber supply. The contract will involve work in winter conditions. See specifications for further details on the requirements of this project.
