Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) is seeking proposals from bidders for a project being initiated by NRCan-Canadian Forestry Services (CFS) Pacific Region, Pacific Forestry Centre in support of the Federal Lands Program, and the services that it provides to the Department of National Defence (DND)-Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Esquimalt. CFB Esquimalt is comprised of 16 properties in coastal British Columbia that total more than 4000 hectares. These properties support considerable biodiversity, including species-at-risk. Habitat assessment conducted in 2017/18 concluded that high-quality bat habitat, including both roosting and foraging habitat, is present at a number of CFB Esquimalt properties. Survey work in 2018/19 confirmed the presence of Little Brown Myotis (Myotis lucifugus) at all surveyed properties. The current project will examine all properties that contain high- or moderate-quality habitats to determine bat use and species present.
