Gateway External Robotics Systems - ''Canadarm3'' Phase A and subsequent phases (options)

This directed contract, awarded by Public Services and Procurement Canada, at the request of the Canadian Space Agency (CSA), requires the chosen Contractor to establish the technical requirements needed for the future design and manufacturing of the robotic system called ''Canadarm3''. This work is qualified as being ''Phase A'' work. The chosen Contractor will also produce a ''Value Proposition'' that will maximize economic benefits to Canada from the Canadarm3 investment. This contract also includes options, which will be negotiated at a later time, for the same Contractor to carry on with the work relative to the subsequent project phases, namely: the Phase B (preliminary design), the Phase C (final design) and the Phase D (manufacturing, integration and tests).

The Canadarm3 is Canada's contribution to the international effort led by the United States of America's National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to build a lunar orbiting space station called the ''Gateway''. The Gateway aims to support both human and robotic access to the lunar surface, and build invaluable experience needed to deal with the challenges of sustainable human lunar surface and future Mars missions. As the manufacturer of the iconic ''Canadarm1'' and ''Canadarm2'', Canada is once again leveraging the unique expertise and experience of the Canadian firm MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Inc. for it to act as the Prime Contractor to develop and manufacture this new generation of robotic systems called ''Canadarm3''.
