The objective of this research is to examine studentand family backgroundcharacteristics of British Columbia (BC) high school students. The research would provide data on student academic pathways and transitions from kindergarten to grade 12 (K-12) through to post-secondary education (PSE) and into the labour market.
Specifically, the research will examine trends in PSE access, persistence and graduation over time, barriers to PSE experienced by youth in BC, and labour market outcomes. Furthermore, the analysis will examine how PSE access, persistence, completion and any barriers to PSE are related to a range of student, family, neighbourhood , K-12 school program , school type , and other characteristics.
This research will support policy development regarding youth, especially those from under-served communities, and their efforts to access, persist and complete higher education. Results from this research will provide the foundation for similar research in other jurisdictions, allowing for a pan-Canadian analysis regarding students’ pathways through the education system and transitions into the labour market.
