W7714-238533 - Acoustic Systems Development and Model

The Atlantic Research Center (ARC) of Defence Research and Development Canada (DRDC) requires support for underwater acoustic measurements to be made offshore of Nova Scotia. Measurements will be made at two locations in waters up to 250 m deep at one location and potentially up to 1000 m deep at the other, during a period of up to three months. Exact timing depends on equipment and vessel availability as well as weather conditions. The variation in received sound levels as a function of location in the water column is of interest, and therefore multi-channel vertical arrays will be required. DRDC has some equipment that could be refurbished for this purpose, however, additional mooring components such as acoustic releases, anchors, and flotation will also be required. DRDC expects to use two 8-element vertical arrays with a 35-m spacing as the sensors for this project. Refurbishment, testing, and calibration of the arrays and recording equipment is required prior to deployment. Assistance with deployment and retrieval of the equipment is also desired.
