Description
Lois Hole Centennial Provincial Park (LHCPP) is one of the largest wetlands in the Central Parkland Natural Subregion and is home to many species of vegetation and animals. LHCPP houses an extremely diverse range of birds and has been flagged as an ‘Important Bird Area’. The park focuses on nature-based education through wildlife viewing, birding, hiking, walking, and educational opportunities in partnership with Big Lake Environment Support Society (BLESS). The trail system ties into surrounding connections from both the City of St. Albert and the City of Edmonton. The trails provided throughout the park are both informal (gravel) to formal (hard surfaced) and meander through existing wetlands and tree stands.
An existing trail in LHCPP requires upgrades to the trail surface and Horseshoe Creek crossing infrastructure. There are two trail braids that lead to informal crossings along Horseshoe Creek, previously there was an informal timber bridge that has since been removed and the other that leads to an informal log crossing structure (that were placed by users).
