Description
BACKGROUND AND PROJECT OVERVIEW
Constructed in 1983, the Universiade Pavilion is an iconic building on the University of Alberta campus. It is iconic not only because of its size but because of the colour of its cladding and its form including the rounded edges, hence the more familiar name “Butterdome”. This project will have clear, direct and significant benefits not only for its role in University athletics, but other events including those for the community and for emergency response efforts at the municipal and provincial level.
The project will follow a progressive design-build model with the primary objective to renew the aged and failing building envelope, address safety concerns caused by the façade and surrounding pathways and to improve the energy performance of the facility by the way of increased R value, solar power generation and a facility wide lighting upgrade.
See RFP for further details.
