    Description
The CHRP is an ongoing initiative to restore legacy seismic lines across 15 caribou ranges in Alberta. There are approximately 209,000 km of legacy seismic lines within caribou ranges, and it is estimated that well over 40% of the lines are not recovering through natural processes. These seismic lines no longer yield economic benefit and without intervention and planting of trees, these legacy seismic lines will likely never become future forest that can support caribou or Alberta’s economy. Due to the amount of legacy seismic lines on Alberta’s landscape, the work of the CHRP has the potential to affect the access of many local land users, including Indigenous communities, trappers, and communities local to areas where restoration is occurring. This project seeks to create opportunities to communicate clearly and effectively with these groups about the CHRP and specific activities under the program. This will support relationship building and foster a deeper understanding of the CHRP and its dual goals of supporting caribou habitat recovery while enabling future development as economically unproductive footprint is recovered across the landscape.
