Forestry and Parks - Specific Fireline and Mobile Equipment Rates

Alberta Wildfire uses the Alberta Roadbuilders and Heavy Construct Association (ARHCA) Rental Rate Guide (Roadbuilders Guide) to set hourly rates for numerous types of heavy equipment. There are a few rates for specific types of heavy equipment that are often brought up and that are under review. For example, excavators hired to work wildfires sustain higher levels of wear and tear due to the work performed on a wildfire, versus the work they are normally hired to do. All-Terrain Vehicle rates (wheeled and tracked off-road water tenders and personnel carriers) are not well represented by the ARHCA Roadbuilders Guide given the wide range of types/makes/models the Department contracts. The Department is seeking input from current heavy equipment contractors on hourly rates (including attachments, operator, and fuel) for specific pieces of equipment (excavators, water trucks, ATV water tenders and ATV personnel carriers). The rates for each type of equipment a company contracts will be collected as well as the year, make, and model of each. The information collected through the RFI will be used to determine how different the company’s rates are from what are used through the Roadbuilders Guide. This difference may be used to provide an increase in hourly rate (e.g. % increase from ARHCA Roadbuilders Guide). The Department is not obligated to apply any of the information received.
