University of Alberta - Advanced Contract Award Notice / Notice of Proposed Procurement - Three (3) AMSCO® Washer Disinfector units

The Department is replacing existing three Steris Washer Disinfector Units, which are installed in 2012. These units are becoming obsolete due to their age and increasing maintenance costs, which have led to challenges in sourcing replacement parts and more breakdowns that are frequent. To maintain reliability, performance, and compliance with the necessary standards for patient care and clinical operations, it is essential to replace these units. This proposal recommends directly replacing our three existing Steris washer disinfector units with new-generation models from the same vendor. This strategy takes advantage of the identical specifications, utility (water and electrical) and footprint of both the current and proposed equipment. This alignment presents a significant opportunity for cost avoidance and minimal operational disruption. By eliminating the need for extensive construction and facility modifications, and by reusing existing conveyor systems, we anticipate saving approximately $100,000 in capital expenditure. The projected installation process is rapid and efficient, ensuring that it will not interrupt clinic production or patient care. Steris has assured that the installation will involve simply disconnecting and removing the old units, followed by moving and reconnecting the new units in the same locations. Maintaining the same vendor and core model minimizes the learning curve for staff and technicians, ensuring a seamless transition to the new equipment. For these reasons, STERIS Canada Sales ULC meets the requirements for a Competitive Bid Exemption as the sole compatible supplier for this equipment replacement.
