University of Calgary - Advanced Contract Award Notice / Notice of Proposed Procurement - High-Throughput Optical Genome Mapping (OGM) System

The University of Calgary (UCalgary) intends to purchase the Saphyr System with Bionano Access Server, 1 color; Saphyr Compute Server, Gen5; Standard 1-year extended service contract; and consumables from Bionano Genomics, Inc. The Saphyr System is a unique and proprietary high-throughput nano-fluidics system designed to generate physical genome maps from the massively parallel single-molecule visualization of extremely long DNA molecules without amplification to provide long-range contiguity critical for de novo sequence scaffolding and analysis of structural variation in complex genomes. All components, including the Saphyr instrument, instrument control server computer, Access Server, Saphyr Chips, server hardware, and reagent kits, are patented and designed to operate as an integrated system, and no third-party systems or components are licensed for use. UCalgary Departments of Oncology, Pathology & Laboratory Medicine and the Charbonneau Cancer Institute require the Saphyr instrument and chips to implement optical genome mapping (OGM) in Alberta, providing high-resolution genomic analysis for oncology, constitutional genomics, and structural genomics research. To the departments’ knowledge, no alternative suppliers or platforms provide the required combination of high-throughput operation, ultra-long DNA molecule analysis without amplification, and seamless integration of instrument, chips, software, and reagents and only Bionano’s Saphyr system is capable of meeting their research and clinical testing requirements.
