University of Calgary - Advanced Contract Award Notice / Notice of Proposed Procurement - Canine Pressure Mat System

The University of Calgary (UCalgary) intends to purchase the zebris Medical GmbH’s FDM 2 CanidGait platform system, Modular extension of 100 Hz for the platform, accessories, software and technical services from Atlas Medic, the exclusive authorized distributor of zebris’ products in Canada. The zebris CanidGait® system represents a technically unique solution for veterinary gait analysis and canine locomotion research. Based on the technical requirements described for clinical gait assessments as well as advanced locomotion studies (e.g., agility movements, high-speed gait, directional changes), no equivalent alternative system provides the same combination of measurement technology, durability, and long-term measurement reliability without the need for regular recalibration of the individually factory calibrated capacitive pressure sensors combined with a distributed setup with two separate pressure mat measurement areas. UCalgary Veterinary Medicine requires this platform in support of their Center for Canine Wellbeing project. The zebris capacitive setup technology provides reliable measurement performance for highly dynamic gait analysis in research environments, such as those required for the assessment of canine agility (e.g., jumping, weaving, rapid cornering etc). In addition, the system's two separate 'tiles' configuration uniquely provides essential features required for the project application, including long-term stability, elimination of calibration, and highest accuracy during dynamic movement patterns for the assessed subject dogs. It is the team’s understanding that only zebris’ CanidGait system is capable of meeting the project requirements, and that Atlas Medic is the only provider of this system in Canada.
