University of Calgary - Advanced Contract Award Notice / Notice of Proposed Procurement - High-Throughput Digital Histological Slide Scanner

The University of Calgary (UCalgary) intends to purchase the Zeiss Axioscan 7, including Polarization Sets, Fluorescence, objectives, camera, software, and workstation from Carl Zeiss Canada Ltd. The musculoskeletal research laboratory at UCalgary currently uses the Zeiss Axioscan Z1 as an integral component of its digital histology and imaging pipelines. To ensure consistency and compatibility across imaging workflows, it is essential to standardize equipment within the laboratory. Acquiring the Axioscan 7 will enable seamless integration with existing protocols, image analysis tools, and data management systems. Standardization between the two scanners minimizes training overhead, ensures reproducibility of image quality and format, and supports continuity in large-scale longitudinal studies where consistent imaging parameters are critical for reliable quantitative analysis. It is the lab’s understanding that only Carl Zeiss’ system is capable of meeting their research requirements.
