Description
The contract is for funding support towards the purchase and deployment of three mooring platforms hosting oceanographic instruments to measure seawater CO2 and oxygen conditions associated with kelp beds. This project is part of a larger Genome Canada funding application titled “Evaluating the role of Canadian kelp production as an atmospheric carbon dioxide mitigation strategy” which aims to assess the role kelp might play as a “nature-based solution” to mitigate climate induced ocean acidification.
