In March of 2024, The Ministry of Agriculture and Food announced a new Enhanced Replant Program that will provide as much as $70 million in support to help producers replace damaged, diseased and low-producing vines, plants and trees with climate-resilient varieties that produce in-demand, premium fruit. The Enhanced Replant Program will include sector-specific Planting Guidelines.
This project will address information gaps in the existing 2023 opportunity assessment and replant financial planning report for the B.C. wine grape industry and develop wine grape sector-specific planting guidelines for the Enhanced Replant Program. Information gaps will be addressed through a comprehensive review of B.C. and world market data, statistics, and consultations with the Ministry, wine grape growers, industry associations, wineries, and researchers/agrologists.
The final report containing recommended planting guidelines must be completed by July 15, 2024.
