    Description
The South Island Natural Resource District is seeking a forest professional to write a fuel management prescription as described in the Tools for Fuel Management webpage1. The fuel management prescription will be written for Glen Oak Drive community to create a fuelbreak from wildfires that could be started in the Linley valley. The area for prescription is 12.1 hectares, which is part of the Coastal Douglas-fir Land Use Order – Schedule 4 protecting the area. The Fire Behavior Prediction system fuel type is classified as C5, which is used to express dry coastal Douglas-fir forests. There is no merchantable timber harvesting associated with this project, rather the pre-commercial silviculture will reduce understory fire risk by mitigating surface fuel arrangement. The site has a steep southwest slope with drainage areas at slope base. There is also wildlife and recreational trails throughout the area, so prescription must address social and ecological (invasives) pressures that affect fuel management outcomes. Further details as to the scope of this opportunity and the requirements can be found within this RFP.
