2026-LS-404 RFP Observatory Dome Enclosure for Telescope System

The Jennewein Laboratory (the Lab) seeks an observatory dome enclosure which will be a key component of a new roof-top quantum satellite station, exploring applications for long-range quantum information transfer to potential receiver locations across the lower mainland. The proposed equipment will house a tracking satellite telescope system and protect it from the elements, allowing it to stably interface with satellite and terrestrial/airborne platforms.
In order to accommodate the size of telescope and users, the dome must be >3m in diameter, allow satellite tracking suitability and a full, unobstructed, horizontal view.
The dome will be installed on an existing building (the Academic Quadrangle at SFU’s Burnaby Campus). As such, there are regulatory (building code) requirements that need to be met, including providing engineered shop drawings to the Authority Having Jurisdiction. The University will be completing separate works (structural modifications, roof curbs, power, etc.) under a Construction manager-led project. The dome supplier shall comply to the following requirements:

Sealed shop drawings and calculations

Product data sheets and compliance documentation

Installation manuals and maintenance requirements

Warranty information Recommended inspection and commissioning requirements (if applicable)
