Description
The MDR Department is operating beyond capacity. With only two washer‑disinfectors, it cannot meet current processing demands. Sterile storage space is inadequate, resulting in overcrowding and overflow, as identified in Accreditation Canada findings.
The department contains extensive wood and laminate cabinetry on the clean and sterile sides, which does not meet CSA standards requiring non‑porous, cleanable surfaces. Accreditation Canada has identified this as a deficiency requiring remediation.
The existing reverse osmosis (RO) system is obsolete and unable to meet departmental demand. Current standards require RO water for final rinses on all washers and sinks. While one of the four MDR sinks is currently supplied with RO water, the remaining three sinks must be connected as part of the RO system replacement.
The MDR renovation includes installation of a third washer‑disinfector, upgrades to sterile storage capacity, replacement of non‑compliant cabinetry, enhancements to prep and pack workstations with instrument tracking capability, replacement of the RO system, and expansion of RO supply to all MDR sinks to meet standards and operational needs.
