The Department of National Defence (DND) delivers a specialized Radio Frequency Safety Officer (RFSO) course designed to train military and civilian personnel who work with, or are exposed to, radio frequency (RF) emitting devices and systems. These individuals may be involved in operating, maintaining, or supervising RF equipment and infrastructure across various DND locations.
The course provides essential knowledge to ensure personnel understand the risks associated with RF energy, how to implement safety procedures, and how to provide RF awareness training. Content is owned and developed by DND and reflects Health Canada's Safety Code 6 (2015), Industry Canada's RSS-102, and DND-specific policies. It is updated as required to reflect evolving technologies and operational needs.
To ensure high-quality delivery, DND requires an experienced instructor capable of teaching in both in-person and virtual formats using adult education methodologies.
