    Description
Lady Eaton College and Champlain College are two of the foundational colleges at Trent University’s Symons Campus in Peterborough, Ontario. Lady Eaton College, established in 1968 and named after philanthropist Flora McCrea Eaton, was originally an all-female college designed by architect Ron Thom. It became co-educational in 1972 and features residential wings and a commons block around a central courtyard. Champlain College, established in 1965 and named after explorer Samuel de Champlain, was the first college on the Symons Campus. Located on the west bank of the Otonabee River, it reflects the university’s commitment to blending Indigenous, English, and French-Canadian cultures. Learn more at www.trentu.ca/colleges. The awarded vendor will address significant structural concerns identified in recent engineering assessments for Champlain College and Lady Eaton College. At Champlain College, the focus will be on mitigating water infiltration and concrete deterioration through acoustical sounding of concrete elements and replacing the podium terrace waterproofing. For Lady Eaton College, the vendor will conduct a detailed review of roofing, glazing, and waterproofing elements using thermographic scanning, exploratory openings, visual inspections, and targeted leak testing. Both assessments will emphasize historical preservation to maintain the architectural integrity of the buildings and incorporate environmental considerations to minimize the carbon footprint and promote sustainability. These comprehensive efforts aim to ensure the long-term structural integrity, environmental sustainability, and historical preservation of the buildings.
