Description
Data Centre Consolidation Initiative (DCC): Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) in partnership with Shared Services Canada SSC is driving the modernization of IT across government. The DCC is a fundamental part of this IT modernization strategy. Under this initiative, Departmental applications will be migrated to consolidated data centres starting in 2015 with a target end-date of 2017. In preparation for this migration, Departments are expected to align their existing applications to a set of DCC platform and application standards. Applications that do not align with DCC standards will not be supported on SSC infrastructure. As Canadian Heritage (PCH) no longer owns the necessary infrastructure to support these applications, there is significant risk that they would effectively be rendered inoperative, impacting the Department’s ability to deliver its programs and services. Email Transformation Initiative (ETI): As directed by TBS, federal departments will be migrating to the government-wide common email service based on the Microsoft Outlook/Exchange platform. The Email Transformation Initiative (ETI) has been planned by Shared Services Canada in 3 waves, with departmental readiness starting now for all, and with the first wave to be completed in June 2014, the second in October 2014, and the third in March 2015. PCH has been identified as a Wave 2 department, given the complexity of the project, which will result in our migration to the common email platform by October 2014. The replatforming of existing Lotus Notes applications will span 3 years, completing within fiscal year 2016-17. The Lotus Notes development environment will only be supported by the Government of Canada (GC) for a limited timeframe and as such PCH needs to stop use all aspects of Lotus Notes.
