Description
Requirement: The work consists of a rock slope remediation program on slopes adjacent to highway 93 South in Kootenay National Park, British Columbia. The work involved with rock slope remediation program consists of rock scaling, trim blasting, rock bolting, installation of new concrete barriers and ditch cleaning (Common Excavation). Rock scaling is performed by hand and involved the crew rappelling down the rock face to the scaling area, and using a metal scaling bar to pry loose rock from the slope. Scaling also encompasses the use of airbags to remove large blocks that cannot be removed using a scaling bar. In Sinclair Canyon, as a separate work item, rock scaling of the overhanging canyon wall is to be conducted from a man lift. This entails one crew member operating the man lift to position themselves so as to be able to scale the overhanging rock with a metal scaling bar. Trim blasting is used to remove larger blocks and dilated masses from the slope that cannot be safely or efficiently removed by scaling. Trim blasting involves drilling and charging holes to blast sections of rock. Blasting includes incidental scaling of the trim blast area following the blast. Project Timeline: The work must be completed between the dates of September 9, 2015 to October 23, 2015.
