    Title:Evaluating the threat of sediment to species at risk freshwater mussels

    INTRODUCTION

    Fisheries and Oceans Canada intends to conduct a research program for evaluating the threat of sediment to species at risk freshwater mussels.

    OBJECTIVES OF THE REQUIREMENT

    • To evaluate the potential for sediment to act as a threat to freshwater mussel species at risk.
    • To assess the sediment flux on suspension feeding clearance rates.
    • To determine if the composition (size fraction, nutritional content) of suspended sediment affects mussel feeding.

    PERIOD OF CONTRACT

    The required services are to be performed during the period from date of contract to March 31, 2016.

    MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS

    Bidders must demonstrate the following:

    • Minimum of 10 years’ experience working with freshwater bivalves
    • Minimum of 5 years’ experience working with species at risk
    • Previous experience assessing feeding behavior of freshwater mussels
    • Laboratory facility capable of holding and maintaining live freshwater mussels

    Bidders’ Proposals must clearly demonstrate that they meet all Mandatory Requirements for the proposal to be considered for further evaluation. Proposals not meeting the mandatory criteria will be excluded from further consideration.

    SELECTION METHOD

    The successful bidder will be selected on the basis of the assessed best value to the Crown.
