    Description

    Richmond Landing – Navy Wake - Ottawa, Ontario

    1. The Navy Wake is a design element that was removed from the project scope of the Navy Monument, which was built in 2012 as a symbolic tribute where Canadians come to commemorate and to celebrate the contributions of the men and women of the Canadian Navy.

    2. The National Capital Commission (NCC) now has an opportunity to integrate the Wake element to complete the original design intent of the Monument.

    3. The Wake will identify the names of 515 ships that the Royal Canadian Navy commissioned since 1910 and some 22 commissioned ships since 2010.

    4. The scope of work concerns the supply and fabrication of etched (sandblasted) Barre granite slabs and Barre granite pavers including delivery to the monument site no later than June 1, 2017.

    5. The scope of work covers the supply of labour, equipment and materials necessary to quarry and cut 9 x approx. 800 mm x 2890 mm +/- irregular granite slabs and a triangular end stone all with a steeled finish. The granite slabs require an etched (sandblasted) introductory text of 83 characters x 38 mm high, a secondary introductory text of 254 characters x 29 mm high and 515 ship names containing 4313 characters x 19 mm high. The final draft graphic layout will be provided following award of contract. Included in the supply are approximately 14 m2 of Barre granite pavers with a flamed finish cut to fit a predetermined pattern and shape.

    6. The scope of work shall also include the following:

     The provision of shop drawings of the final assembly and individual numbered stones, which will be verified by the NCC;

     Installation instructions as required;

     Instructions for the addition of names on site; and

     Maintenance instructions, including graffiti removal.

    7. The tender documents provided cover other related works and is for bidder information purposes only.

    8. The fabricator will be required to develop all stone sizes, shapes and text layouts w.r.t. the final monument design by others.

    9. Access to the site will require coordination with the NCC and its contractor currently completing other related work activities on the site.

    10. Refer to the drawings and specifications for detailed information.

    11. Following award of this tender, the fabricator will be engaged under separate contract to complete the installation of the granite slabs no later than June 30, 2017.
