    Description

     Summary of Work

    1. General

    1.1. The requirement of this specification consists of the Design, Fabrication and Delivery of two new Self-support towers for the CCG Atlantic Region. Towers are required for Chebucto Head and Shannon Hill (Dartmouth), Nova Scotia.

    1.2. The work to be done under this Specification shall include all engineering, labour, materials and equipment necessary to complete the design, fabrication and delivery to the full extent of the Specification and Drawings. The specification is for a minimum 50 year performance life.

    1.3. Installation of the towers will be under a future separate tender

    1.4. Work shall include but not be limited to the following:

    1.5. Engineering design and fabrication of a 45.72m self-support tower structure for Chebucto Head, NS as per site specific environmental and loading conditions as per Appendix B

    1.6. Engineering design, fabrication of a 45.72m self-support tower structure for Shannon Hill, NS as per site specific environmental and loading conditions as per Appendix B

    1.7. Supply of auxiliary facilities such as antennas, ladders, safety rails, tower lighting and platforms for both towers. Reference Appendix A.

    1.8. Supply of all required obstruction markings and obstruction lighting as per Transport Canada requirements.

    1.9. Transportation of both towers and all materials and equipment to CCG site located near Sambro, NS.

    1.10. Tower footprint to be minimized as much as practical for tower height.

    2. Definitions

    2.1. Departmental Representative means: Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Canadian Coast Guard (CCG)

    2.2. (Tower) Design Engineer means: Contractor’s Design Engineer of Record.

    3. Site Information

    3.1. Site 1 is located at 44° 30’ 26.87” North, 63° 31’ 23.07” West, at the Canadian Coast Guard site in Chebucto Head, Nova Scotia. Site elevation (ASL) is 27 m.

    3.2. Site 2 is located at 44° 41’02” North, 63° 36’ 33.9” West, at the Canadian Coast Guard site in Shannon Hill (Dartmouth), Nova Scotia. Site elevation (ASL) is 21m.

    3.3. Any dimensions given in this Specification or appended drawings are approximate and are for guidance only.

    3.4. The sites are easily accessible.

    4. Existing Soil Condition

    4.1. Geotechnical reports are not available at this time so foundation design is not part of this tender requirement. Foundation design will be completed once site information is available.

    5. Schedule

    5.1. All work on the project shall be completed within the time indicated in the tender document.

    5.2. Design and fabrication to be substantially completed by within 12 weeks of award.

    5.3. Contractor is to provide an updated detailed schedule and commence work immediately upon award of contract and after review and approval of all submittals.

    6. Project Meetings

    6.1. Departmental Representative will arrange and give notice of all project meetings. Contractor is responsible for any expenses related to attending these meetings.

    6.2. Prior to commencement of work there will be a Project “Kick-Off” Meeting. The Contractors Project Manager and the Departmental Representative are required to attend. The meeting will be held at the Contractors office/plant.

    6.3. Contractor to have a responsible representative present at all job meetings and to the maximum extent possible, this should be the same person.

    7. Protection and Preservation of Materials and Equipment

    7.1. Store all materials and equipment to prevent theft or damage or deterioration. Repair or replace all material or equipment damaged in transit or storage to the satisfaction of and to no cost to the Departmental Representative.
