    Description

    A Marine Industry Advisory Committee (MIAC) has been established to facilitate coordinated dialogue surrounding opportunities and challenges facing the Canadian Marine Industry. The Committee will provide a forum for the discussion of a range of cross-cutting topics including, but not limited to, planning, interdependencies, best practices, innovation, international market opportunities and trends, and the state of the Canadian marine sector. Through increased stakeholder engagement, the MIAC will provide input into plans in response to these, assist with implementation and provide advice to the Interdepartmental Marine Committee. The Committee will complement and not replace standard industry engagement that occurs in the context of individual procurement processes.

    Chaired by the Director General of the Public Services and Procurement Canada’s (PSPC) Marine Services and Small Vessel Sector (Chair), its government membership comprises the Director Generals of the Department of National Defence’s (DND) Maritime Equipment Program Management Division; Canadian Coast Guard’s Integrated Technical Services; Royal Canadian Mounted Police’s Material and Assets Management Branch, Transport Canada’s Air and Defence Programs; Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada’s (ISED) Aerospace, Defence and Marine Branch; and Innovation, Innovation Science and Economic Development Canada’s (ISED) Industrial Technological Benefits Branch. The Chair may call additional Government of Canada representatives to participate in meetings as appropriate.

    From a Marine Industry representation perspective, we are pleased to report that the following Marine Industry associations have been invited, and have accepted, to participate in the MIAC:

    •  Association of British Columbia Marine Industries;
    • Canadian Institute of Marine Engineering;
    • Canadian Ferry Association;
    • Nova Scotia Boatbuilders Association; and
    • Canadian Association of Defence & Security Industries.

      Achieving a balanced and comprehensive representation of Industry is of prime importance to the committee in its quest to convey and receive information to and from Industry. As such, we are soliciting interest from Marine Industry company executives (one representative per company) to respectively represent the following industry market segments:

    • In-service support[1] (two companies) ;
    • Repair, refit and maintenance (two companies);
    • Small vessel construction (two companies);
    • Naval architecture/engineering (one company); and
    • Supply chain (one company).

      In addition, the MIAC may establish tiered Subject Matter Expert panels (in-service support; repair, refit and maintenance; small vessel construction; naval architecture/engineering; and/or supply chain) to solicit more detailed feedback/advice on segment relevant topics.

      You will find enclosed a copy of the proposed terms of reference as well as an expression of interest form to volunteer to participate as a MIAC member. Nominations can be submitted via email, no later than 10 December 2018, by returning the duly completed form.

      Should the solicitation of membership, through the present mechanism, yield less than the expected amount of representatives, PSPC’s Marine Commodity Management Secretariat will contact key members of the industry to solicit interest and may issue an invitation. Conversely, should requests for representation exceed the proposed allocations, the Secretariat will conduct a random draw amongst the interested companies (within the appropriate segment).
