Twice annual preventive maintenance of Buhler Carat 105 die casting machine

Background

Natural Resources Canada’s (NRCan) laboratory in Hamilton has been operating a high pressure die caster for the past seven (7) years. The die caster had been purchased by NRCan following an open solicitation (Public Services and Procurement Canada file number: 23240-128132). This highly specialized machine is primarily used for conducting research on development of lightweight automotive body structures, which may be used on conventional vehicles and next generation propulsion systems. 

In order for the die caster to operate within manufacture specifications and to maximize its lifespan, it requires scheduled maintenance by trained technicians.

Objectives

To provide preventive maintenance for the Buhler Carat 105 high pressure die caster. The maintenance must be in line with the manufacturer’s guidelines to ensure longevity of die caster, as well as retaining the optimum performance for use within a national laboratory.
